We Are Tickled Pink!
Margaret, Linda, Jodi, and Romy are Going to Walk in a Marathon!
If I told you that I’m walking 26 miles for 2 days to help women with undetected breast cancer find out early enough to survive, would you support me? What if I told you that right now there are over 1,000,000 women in the United States with undetected breast cancer? Would you sponsor me to help them find out early enough that they survive to watch their friends and family grow up and grow old? How about if I told you that 70% of those women have absolutely no risk factors for breast cancer. They don’t even know they should be checking. Would you sponsor me to help educate them? Millions of women in the United States do not have access to regular healthcare. Would you sponsor me to help save the lives of these medically underserved women? Here’s my last question: Would you sponsor me if I told you that somewhere in the United States someone’s mother, sister, aunt or very best friend is diagnosed with breast cancer every 3 minutes, and every 13 minutes breast cancer claims another life. In just ten years, the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade has raised more than $235 million for the cause worldwide. That money goes to support medical research into the possible causes and cure, education and early detection programs, and clinical care and support services for women with breast cancer in communities across the country. There is a special focus on helping medically underserved women the poor, minorities, the elderly, or those with inadequate health insurance. And much of the money granted by the Foundation goes back to the communities where it was raised, supporting everything from local grassroots programs to national organizations. Thanks for helping us work toward changing that statistic. What Got Us Involved? Margaret works in Mammography, and, unfortunately, has been touched by breast cancer "on the job". She was also inspired by the members of Team EA, who walked in the 2002 Avon Walk. Then, just after Margaret signed up, her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. The walk has taken on a great personal significance for Margaret, who walks in honor of her mother. Linda is both an MRI and Mammography Tech. She has been touched on the job as well as in her personal life. In 2002, both her friend Janine, and her co-worker Kathy were diagnosed with breast cancer. Linda will walk to honor these women, as well as every woman and man that you and I know or will ever know. Jodi is also both an MRI and mammography tech. She has also been touched "on the job" by breast cancer. The walk has personal significance for Jodi, as well. Jodi is walking in honor of Frances Brancato and Kathy Toomey. Jodi is also walking in memory of Marie Beale. Romy a certified Mammography tech. She is also a mother of three, who recently gave birth. She is walking because of the impact breast cancer has had on her. Romy has walked to fight Breast Cancer in the past, with Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. For these reasons, Team Tickled Pink was born. Don't walk in front of me because I may not follow. Don't walk behind me because I may not lead. Just walk beside me and be my friend.
